Monitoring MPAs by SCUBA in waters off Central California

We are pleased to announce a new informational booklet that presents results from California's Marine Life Protection Act (MLPA) baseline kelp forest monitoring surveys in the central coast study region (CCSR). The booklet titled "Monitoring MPAs by SCUBA in waters off Central California" presents data gathered in 2007 and 2008 as part of kelp forest baseline monitoring in MLPA state marine protected areas.

There are limited hard copies of the publication but we have also made this product available in PDF form that can be downloaded from two locations: NOAA's Office of National Marine Sanctuaries, Sanctuary Integrated Monitoring Network (SIMoN) website (http://www.sanctuarysimon.org/
monterey/sections/simon/simon_downloads.php
) and the Partnership for Interdisciplinary Studies of Coastal Oceans (PISCO) website (http://www.pisco.org).

This booklet was created by PISCO in collaboration with NOAA's Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary (MBNMS), the Monterey Bay Sanctuary Foundation (MBSF), and the California Sea Grant program. Support for the baseline monitoring in the CCSR was provided by the California Ocean Protection Council administered by California Sea Grant and UC Santa Cruz. Future efforts to develop sustainable, informative, and innovative monitoring of California's MPA network will be guided by the MPA Monitoring Enterprise (http://www.calost.org/monitoring_ent.html).
