This is most likely Rathbunella alleni, the Stripefin Ronquil. This has also been called the rough or smooth ronquil, but those names are not used in a paper by Stevenson and Matarese (2005) that describes the species in this genus along the west coast of the US. Rathbunella alleni has museum specimens from San Francisco down to Baja CA. A similar looking congener, R. hypoplecta--the Bluebanded Ronquil--has no museum specimens north of Point Conception near Santa Barbara, CA. Citation: Stevenson, D. E., and A. C. Matarese. 2005. A revision of the North Pacific fish family Bathymasteridae (Perciformes: Zoarcoidei). Proceedings of the Biological Society of Washington 118:367-406.
